Iv been writing this blog for just over a year now which seems crazy when i look back. The difference between now and then is pretty nuts. Surfing in Ireland is changing. Some think its for the good, some think otherwise.

Its been cool letting people know whats going on here and there but its over. Not really into it anymore. I have said what iv wanted to say and even though theirs plenty more to be said i think im gonna be a bit more quiet from now on. I doubt i have gathered a huge group of followers but to those who have read this blog, Thank You.

I just want to say this before i go.

I think a lot of photography isn’t what people tend to think it is.. Its not about sitting at your laptop and reading forums/photography tips on the web.. Its not about buying a photography magazine and reading it cover to cover.. Its not about buying all the latest.. and its definitely not about going on flickr and seeing something you think is cool and trying to copy it..

If you really want to learn then grab your camera and walk outside with a few friends.

Some of the best photos i have are not the ones that are perfectly in focus, well lit and make me lots of money. My best photos are photos i have of stupid things.. Drunken friends, friends hurting themselves, friends putting on stupid faces, people we meet on trips that end up being pretty scary and dodgy. Its them photos that bring back memorys, that make you laugh and remember forgotten stories and its making them photos that thought me about my camera.

Photography is an art, Photography is a way to document life, A way to see things others don’t and in doing so be different.

My plan is to go on a lot more trips.  I want to explore a lot more. If I capture something different along the way then i will be happy.

Why be stuck doing something you are not happy doing. Try new things, push yourself, go where you wanna go and be happy doing it. If ya don’t go ya wont know.

Yaaaaa.. Christmas is close!! Cant wait. Im getting all my family to help me out with photography gear for Christmas.. All things go to plan i should be pretty well set up for model/fashion stuff.. Cant wait to dive in!!

As regards the water housing.. It coming! Just have to wait.. Its hard to think that my camera and the housing im gonna have as made images like this..

Was shooting an event Saturday night.

Sex and The City themed night in the amazing Armada!! What a spot! Good all night too. Enjoyed shooting it!

It was organized and ran by Sinead & Aisling who were raising money for Miltown Football Club.. Fair play to them!!:)

Pretty happy with the shots from the night. Im finally getting 100% in control and understanding my flash and its ways. All my equipment was perfect for the night bar a few runs to reception for battery’s from my bag..

Thats it really… Its nearly 11 in the morning and iv already checked all the reefs i know from Spanish Point to The Cliffs Of Moher.. Nothing!! Skunk poo!!!

Here’s two portraits i took of Ferg this evening for my on-going project.. There only alright but i got better ones for the real thing!

Frosty mornings. Ya gotta love them!

I may be one of only few who say that as we face the coldest 3 to 4 months Ireland has to offer but i just think theres something about it.

Waking up to the sound of a light drizzle hitting the windows and winds howling through the house. There’s snow on the higher hills and frost on the grass. The cows are in the sheds along with the rest of the farm animals and only few venture out amongst the Irish winter chill.

This may sound like somewhere you’d rather skip on your travels but armed with a nice big waterproof jacket and some plastic bags for your electronics even places you’ve walked and explored for hours on end can turn in to a little unknown world.

And its worth venturing into a unknown world.. Trust me!

You know what they say!  “Good things come to those who wait”

And boy did i wait for this..

Im excited!!!

Real excited!! First off there’s plans of me getting my waterhousing.. Finally im getting in the juice!! Thats already SUUPER exciting..

But the real reason im excited is… Ahh i cant tell ye.

Yup yup true it is.. I cant be telling folk but trust me.. If it works out the way i have planned.. I will not alone have accomplished something I am extremely proud of but ye guy might like it too

Putting a good few hours into these projects (Notice: “projects”) and I am loving the work.

Hopefully ye will too.

Something Hidden, Something Thick, Something Barreling, Something Sick.

It was a brilliant weekend!!

The surf has been constantly amazing for the last month.. Give or take a day or two though, don’t forget we are in Ireland..

 

Iv been filling GBs and GBs of waves and its been great!! Shooting places like Riley’s and Loid’s is brill but i like to wonder off the beating track with my camera and see where it takes me..

 

A lot of the time its a failure and you end up with mucky shoes, tired legs and an empty memory cards. But not always.

Found this gem firing. This was a small set. One to look out for in the future i reckon. Perfection!

Wow! An experience!

Its been a week of madness. Absolutely PUMPING!!

One spot iv never seen so perfect firing people out of barrels!!! Being stuck in school today sucked.. Got a call from a friend saying the cliffs was 15ft and why aren’t you shooting it!!Heard rumors that the biggest wave ever surfed there was surfed today by our local lad Fergal Smith!! If its true which i dont doubt.. Respect Ferg!!

Iv had a week full of fun including The Coronas gig which was awesome. Here’s some shots from that!

The surf is pumping everywhere and im thinking of running from school tomorrow to get some shots.

Oh last week i shot with Mickey Smith’s 5D Mrk II (Shout out to mickey for letting me use it!! Whoop legend!). I shot some video and stills. The quality of both are off the charts and i stuck some of the footage together and made this.

Its my first attempt at a short film/clip and first time properly editing a movie clip. I had no tri-pod and it was my first time using the 5D so taking all that into account have a watch and let me know what ya think.
