Il let the photos talk..

Somewhere deep in this field theirs a small stream which as you’ve probably guessed has overflowed.

Like this next shot.. Intresting and it tells the story,

That’s that really.. Wish i had more shots of this epic rain storm but that’s all i have.. Tomorrows meant to be worse too so hold on to your hats ladies and gents!! Hopefully il get some shots!!!

Here’s two portraits i took of Ferg this evening for my on-going project.. There only alright but i got better ones for the real thing!

Frosty mornings. Ya gotta love them!

I may be one of only few who say that as we face the coldest 3 to 4 months Ireland has to offer but i just think theres something about it.

Waking up to the sound of a light drizzle hitting the windows and winds howling through the house. There’s snow on the higher hills and frost on the grass. The cows are in the sheds along with the rest of the farm animals and only few venture out amongst the Irish winter chill.

This may sound like somewhere you’d rather skip on your travels but armed with a nice big waterproof jacket and some plastic bags for your electronics even places you’ve walked and explored for hours on end can turn in to a little unknown world.

And its worth venturing into a unknown world.. Trust me!

You know what they say!  “Good things come to those who wait”

And boy did i wait for this..

Things be on there way.

It was a brilliant weekend!!

The surf has been constantly amazing for the last month.. Give or take a day or two though, don’t forget we are in Ireland.. ;)

Iv been filling GBs and GBs of waves and its been great!! Shooting places like Riley’s and Loid’s is brill but i like to wonder off the beating track with my camera and see where it takes me..

A lot of the time its a failure and you end up with mucky shoes, tired legs and an empty memory cards. But not always.

Found this gem firing. This was a small set. One to look out for in the future i reckon. Perfection!

The best thing to hit the coast since the slice of toast!!

Wow! An experience!

Its been a week of madness. Absolutely PUMPING!!

One spot iv never seen so perfect firing people out of barrels!!! Being stuck in school today sucked.. Got a call from a friend saying the cliffs was 15ft and why aren’t you shooting it!!Heard rumors that the biggest wave ever surfed there was surfed today by our local lad Fergal Smith!! If its true which i dont doubt.. Respect Ferg!!

Iv had a week full of fun including The Coronas gig which was awesome. Here’s some shots from that!

IMG_0141

Had fun at the gig, There a super band to see live.

The surf is pumping everywhere and im thinking of running from school tomorrow to get some shots.

Oh last week i shot with Mickey Smith’s 5D Mrk II (Shout out to mickey for letting me use it!! Whoop legend!). I shot some video and stills. The quality of both are off the charts and i stuck some of the footage together and made this.

Its my first attempt at a short film/clip and first time properly editing a movie clip. I had no tri-pod and it was my first time using the 5D so taking all that into account have a watch and let me know what ya think.

Movement on the horizon!

Yes its that time of the year again.

People have moved back to college, shops are getting rid of there bucket and spades and stocking up on warm drinks and hot water bottles, the cows have been put back in the sheds and sure as them cold winds blow in over the huge Atlantic Ocean the Summer/Autumn is over and winter, like a cold drip of water down our backs, is here!!

But as grim as all this coldness sounds for few it is a sign of good things to come!

Yes iv been missing in action for the last few weeks and its due having the time of my life!!

Lahinch Surf School went on our staff trip to Barcalona few weeks ago. Dunno how describe it really. Il give ya a quick run through of events, starting at the start.

One early flight (4am leaving Lahinch), One person on an all-nighter, One scam to get all skateboards into one bag,  One fully naked person for take-off, One Center of town hostel, One underage drunk K.O’d 5 hours after landing in Barcalona, One person missing, One bottle of fanta off the balcony(4 stories high), One couple having fun in the building across the way, Two siiick skate sessions, One snapped deck, Five arrests, One beating Three fines, Two attempted pick pocketings, One purchased live chicken (Mr. Higgins), One legend of a hostel owner!!, 100000s of dodgy drug dealers, One scary prostitute, One bucket of ice-cream, One bartering session over a stolen bike, 48 hours of madness and 25 Lahinch locals that were lucky to make it back on the return fight.

Hope that gives ya an idea of what the trip was like.. :)

Heres some shots from the last few weeks.. Didn’t bring my camera to barcalona because i wanted to skate myself.

First one there is of my friend Luke as he waited for his lift home after being at my house for a bit.  Second shot is one i like alot, Nice glow off that close wing, The bird in the background gives it a bit of a story.

IMG_0014copyIMG_0015 copy

My boy Donough Cronin!!! Legend of a kid!! Rips in the water and is one the coolest kids you’ll meet!!  Like both these portraits for different reasons, The first one looks like a kid in a ruf part of Dublin whereas the second looks like a good portrait of a surfer. haha

IMG_0063IMG_0149 copy

The two above where taken of Aussie exchange student that came over for a week. They were cool and we brought them cliff jumping!!! Didn’t hesitate them crazy lads and lassies.

Anyway that’s all i have to say. Oh got my Mac!!! Kicks ass!! Waking up in the morning to go shoot!! Was ment to have a model shoot tomorow with a ladie friend in a really cool location but things came up for both of us. Next weekend is the plan!! Will write a blog about that if i remember.. ha!!

Talk soon!

The All-Ireland Skate Comp!

•August 28, 2009 • 2 Comments

When up to shoot the Comp.. Was blown away by the standard of irish skaters. Iv been skating for maby 5 yrs properly.. When i say properly though i mean messing about.. Would never enter a comp but i can kickplip and am landing a few tre-flips every now and again.. I always thought people in ireland where mellow enough skaters but i was completly wrong!!! Il let the pictures talk.

 IMG_0049

Cian Eades (3rd Place) was in my eyes the skater of the day. He won the best trick contest with a tripleflip and a switch laser flip down the stairs!

IMG_1958IMG_2069

Gav Coughlan (1st Place) was siick!!! Such a good skater. Skated the final amazingly!!! Andy the organiser and Tubes Skate Shop Man!!!!Legend!!

IMG_2188

Keith Walsh (2nd Place). This guy gets some serious air!! Sick Skater too!!

There something about it isent there.. Its hard to pin it down to one word or to one feeling.

Theres excitment, anticipation, and this feeling in your gut like something great is about to happen. Maybe its speeding down tiny pothole riddled irish lanes that gives you that feeling in(literally) your gut? Maybe Its when you first see that glimps of whitewater spray over the hill? Maybe its the sounds of pump up music blaring from the car speakers? Maybe its the smell of wax and fresh sea air mixed with some salt crystals caked on the surfboards that pulls you into a dreamy sense of adventure but for me it the whole package and theres nothing better.
